APRIL IS NATIONAL FRESH CELERY MONTH
Celery is one of the unsung heroes of the produce world. It doesn’t get a whole lot of attention – celery side dishes aren’t too common, after all – but this veggie adds crunch and freshness that many others simply can’t compete with.
Celery is celebrated every April during National Fresh Celery Month. It’s a member of the parsley family, and was first cultivated 3,000 years ago in the Mediterranean region. Today, it’s usually found on veggie platters next to a bowl of dip, or used in soups and stews. In fact, it’s a staple in Creole cooking. New Orleans gumbo wouldn’t be quite the same without it.
Heavy rains in some parts of the country earlier this year have impacted celery quality, but Grasmick Produce is committed to sourcing the best supply in the west. We provide celery with firm, tightly packed stalks and vibrant, green leaves. Several thin stalks in the center of the bunch also indicates high quality.
We think celery deserves some celebration this month. Let us know if we can provide a crisp batch of celery in your next order.
